Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2025 Edition 10 Years Old released
The latest edition of Loch Gorm, Kilchoman’s annual sherry matured limited release, is now available. The bottling is named after the largest freshwater loch on Islay, located near the distillery, whose dark, murky waters are said to be reflected in the rich copper tones of the sherry-matured Loch Gorm.
The annual Loch Gorm editions vary slightly from year to year in terms of the composition of the casks used. With two exceptions in the early days of the series, when hogsheads were also used, they are always Oloroso sherry butts, but of different ages and with different numbers of first-fill and refill casks.
As last year, Kilchoman founder Anthony Wills and production director Robin Bignal selected 23 Oloroso sherry butts, but this time 20 first-fill casks, rich with bold sherry influence, and three second-fill casks, adding depth and complexity. As always at Kilchoman, the 500-litre sherry butts come from the Bodega José y Miguel Martín and were filled with spirit distilled from barley malt with a phenol content of 50 ppm. 20 first-fill casks

The trend in the anniversary year 2025 of giving all Kilchoman bottlings an age statement is also being followed with Loch Gorm, so you can read a lot about the very first Loch Gorm, aged 10 years, in the advertising. Anyone expecting this to mean that the whisky is significantly older than last year’s release should note that the youngest cask in the 2024 Loch Gorm vatting was 9 years and 11 months old…
