From 2018 to 2023, Kilchoman offered local retailers the opportunity to create customised bottlings of the distillery´s flagship whisky Machir Bay with the ‘Machir Bay Collaborative Vattings’.
Deviating from the normal cask composition of Machir Bay, which consists of 90% bourbon and 10% Oloroso sherry cask-matured whisky, retailers could choose between four different variants with slightly altered proportions for the Collaborative Vattings: 95% bourbon / 5% sherry, 92.5% bourbon / 7.5% sherry, 87.5% bourbon / 12.5% sherry or 85% bourbon / 15% sherry cask-matured whisky. As with the ‘normal’ Machir Bay bottlings, the alcohol content was 46%. The boxes and bottles in the usual Machir Bay design were labelled with an individual sticker from the retailer.
The liquor store Goldeagle Wine & Spirits in Libertyville, Illinois, released a 2022 bottled MBCV release with 92.5% bourbon and 7.5% sherry in 2023. On the official release date of 21 March 2023, Goldeagle Wine & Spirits hosted a special Kilchoman tasting featuring six different Kilchoman whiskies. The 90 bottles remaining after the tasting were sold online and in-store for £64.99.
