Kilchoman New Oak Single Cask Finish 233/2018 [for Smaller Markets]

Kilchoman occasionally releases bottlings that are not intended for a specific country, but for smaller markets where demand for single cask bottlings is too low. To enable these countries to also enjoy a wider range of Kilchoman whiskies, the bottlings are delivered in partial quantities to different countries.

This STR Cask Matured / New Oak Finish Release is one of them. Released from spring 2025, it is the fourth bottling of a few existing casks from Anthony Wills’ finishing experiment with New Oak (formerly ‘Virgin Oak’ – we reported).

The whisky was first matured for more than five years in a fresh STR cask (shaved, toasted and re-charred ex-red wine cask) and then finished in a new ‘Carpathian oak’ cask (European oak from the Carpathians) for 17 months. As with the other three bottlings that have already been released, the result is an extremely spicy-tasting Kilchoman whisky.
