New Barley Drying Facility on Islay

Kilchoman announced today on its website that the distillery will be able to dry the harvested barley on Islay instead of having to transport it to the mainland and back again.

This will be possible because Andrew and Neil Wood have installed the first barley drying facility on Islay on their farm at Octofad, which can be used by Kilchoman (or Rockside Farm) in the future.

The Octofad facility (weighbridge, unloading area, drying house and storage) will enable the individual harvests from the 15 Islay farms to be stored separately until they are ready for malt production later in the year.

This year’s barley harvest at Rockside Farm should be over in about a week if the rain stops for a few days.
