Delivery of Quarter Cask has arrived at Kilchoman Distillery

As Kilchoman reported yesterday, a delivery of 132 Quarter Casks has arrived at the distillery. These casks with a volume of about 100 litres were made in a cooperage from refill bourbon barrels.

Quarter casks are often used by some distilleries for finishing, as the cask’s significantly larger internal surface area in relation to its volume results in more intense contact between the maturing distillate and the wood.

However, Kilchoman wants to fill the casks with New Make, i.e. they will use them for full maturation and not for finishing. We are curious about the result!
