The Oloroso Sherry Butt 85/2009 was a so-called split cask, i.e. three different bottlings were made from its contents. This was not an unusual procedure in the early years of Kilchoman’s existence, especially with the 500l sherry butts.
In addition to the release listed here, another part was released in the Netherlands and the third part as a Distillery Shop Exclusive Release. The whisky was matured for a good 5 years in a very active sherry cask, which gave it a lot of colour and distinct sherry notes.

There are questions regarding the number of bottles bottled. The US edition does not have bottle numbers on the back label, but according to the importer ImpEx Beverages, it is said to have been 300 bottles for the US market. The Distillery Exclusive bottling is said to have an edition of 150 bottles, and according to the label the Dutch edition has 618 bottles. At least the latter cannot be correct, since a sherry butt of this age can yield a maximum of 680 bottles with a volume of 0.7 litres, depending on the Angels Share (and not 1068 bottles). If we also consider that the US bottles have a higher volume of 0.75 l, we have a reasonable hypothesis that the total circulation was 618 bottles.
