The first Kilchoman Whisky the “Kilchoman Inaugural Release” was released on 9.9.2009. A few issues of “New Spirits”, mostly 2 years old, had already been released before.

The whisky was first matured for between 2,5 to 3 years in fresh bourbon barrels before being finished in fresh oloroso sherry butts for a further 5 month to give the still very young whisky a little more complexity and depth. Like all future Kilchoman whiskies, it was not coloured and not chill filtered. The malt was vatted and reduced to 46% on Islay before being delivered to Houston bottling company in Dumbarton where it was bottled on August 31. The circulation was 8.450 bottles.

On the day of the sales launch, Anthony Wills invited to the “Inaugural Single Malt Launch Party” and celebrated the appearance of the first Kilchoman whisky with many whisky celebrities (including the managers of the other Islay distilleries). The general tenor after tasting this first edition was the astonishment how drinkable a three year old whisky can be.
