Timeline 2001

  • Anthony Wills, a former wine merchant and independent whisky bottler from England, and Mark French, who runs the Rockside Farm on Islay, develop the idea of building a traditional farm distillery on the Rockside Farm.
  • On 8 October 2001, planning permission for the “Conversion of redundant farm buildings and erection of new buildings to form new malt whisky distillery” is applied for from Argyll & Bute Council.
  • On 12 November 2001 Kilchoman Distillery Company Ltd is incorporated as a private limited company into the Companies Register with Anthony Wills as Director and his wife Katherine as Secretary
  • Argyll & Bute Council grants planning permission on 7 December 2001. As usual, this is valid for 5 years.
