La Maison Du Whisky (LMDW) is not only one of the best-known whisky shops in France, but also an importer. It has been the official importer of the Kilchoman distillery for France since its early days and has released countless Kilchoman bottlings over the years, including many truly outstanding releases.

The bottling listed here was not only the very first Kilchoman single cask release by LMDW but also the first bottling of a Kilchoman single cask whisky worldwide. It was bottled just 6 days after the release of the Kilchoman Inaugural Release.

Presented by Anthony and James Wills at the Whisky Live Paris 2009 whisky fair, which took place from 26 to 28 September 2009, it is a fine example of the very first three-year-old Kilchoman bottlings that generated such a positive response among whisky fans, marking the beginning of the distillery’s road to success. The 253 bottles were already sold out on the last day of the fair.

The bottle still has a banderole around the cork, as was customary for single cask releases from Kilchoman’s early days until the end of March 2010. It was not until May 2010 that bottles bottled by hand at Kilchoman were also fitted with a metal capsule. The label features the dark blue color of the Kilchoman Inaugural Release from September 2009. Starting with the Autumn 2009 Release in November 2009, all Kilchoman bottlings had a royal blue label for the next two years. Only nine early single cask bottlings, such as the one mentioned here, still had the old dark blue labels.

It is the only one of the numerous subsequent Kilchoman single cask bottlings that does not yet have a back label or cardboard box. This means that nowhere is it stated that this is a bottling for LMDW or Whisky Live Paris. These two features, along with the type of cork and the banderole, link it to the dozen New Make Single Cask bottlings Kilchoman New Spirit Over 2 Years ‘Anticipation’ released by Kilchoman in 2008 and 2009, of which it is the successor.
