Kilchoman Cognac Cask Matured 2026 Edition

Kilchoman has now announced the launch of its next limited release: the Cognac Cask Matured 2026 Edition. Since 2014, Kilchoman has been releasing, between one and three times a year, fully matured whiskies from so-called ‘experimental cask types’ – that is, casks that most distilleries would normally use for finishing.

The first Cognac Matured Limited Release was launched in 2023; this new, second bottling is very similar to the first in terms of its key details (age and number of casks used). On this occasion, Kilchoman’s founder Anthony Wills and Production Director Robin Bignal selected 33 Cognac casks (fresh Cognac barriques made from European oak) from 2019. The vatting of these casks, diluted to 50 per cent, yielded approximately 15,000 bottles.

Kilchoman Founder and CEO Anthony Wills wrote:
“Full-term maturation in first-fill experimental casks is risky; we need to monitor the maturation very closely.  The aim is to maximise flavour, both from the cask and from the spirit.  The Cognac casks bring an abundance of flavour but left too long and they would overwhelm the Kilchoman spirit.  The casks work to their own schedule, and we need to be ready to bottle when the balance is right.”

The bottling is expected to be available from retailers (at least in Europe) from the end of this week; bottles are already on sale in the Kilchoman online shop for £58.25 plus VAT.
