Kilchoman Family Collection 1st Edition announced
Last year, to mark the twentieth anniversary of the distillery’s founding, Kilchoman released a strictly limited series of four different small-batch bottlings in high-quality decorative packaging – the 20th Anniversary Cask Series. This allowed whisky enthusiasts to trace the development of Kilchoman whisky up to an age of 18 years.
Kilchoman has now announced the Family Cask Collection, a series that follows the concept and design of the highly successful 20th Anniversary Cask Series. This series also consists of four age-stated bottlings and, alongside a 20-year-old Kilchoman (!) – the distillery’s oldest release to date – an 11-year-old whisky fully matured in sherry casks, a 14-year-old 100% Islay expression distilled in 2011 from the distillery’s own barley grown at Rockside Farm and matured in bourbon casks, and an 18-year-old expression also from bourbon casks.

As the name of the series suggests, the casks used for the bottlings were individually selected by the five members of the Kilchoman founding family, resulting in a range that reflects their personal tastes, their shared passion and the evolving character of Kilchoman.
Kilchoman has previously released three series of whiskies personally selected by members of the Wills family. However, these were all single-cask bottlings for regional markets (the UK, France and China) and, unlike the new series, the individual bottlings were labelled with the name of the family member who had selected them.

As the subtitle 1st Edition suggests, we can look forward to seeing more of this range of rare whiskies in elegant packaging in the future, which provide an excellent way of tracing the development of the Kilchoman spirit in Oloroso sherry and Bourbon casks, right through to the oldest vintages.
