From 2018 to 2023, Kilchoman offered local retailers the opportunity to create customised bottlings of the distillery´s flagship whisky Machir Bay with the ‘Machir Bay Collaborative Vattings’.

Deviating from the normal cask composition of Machir Bay, which consists of 90% bourbon and 10% Oloroso sherry cask-matured whisky, retailers could choose between four different variants with slightly altered proportions for the Collaborative Vattings: 95% bourbon / 5% sherry, 92.5% bourbon / 7.5% sherry, 87.5% bourbon / 12.5% sherry or 85% bourbon / 15% sherry cask-matured whisky. As with the ‘normal’ Machir Bay bottlings, the alcohol content was 46%. The boxes and bottles in the usual Machir Bay design were labelled with an individual sticker from the retailer.

The German beverage wholesaler Wein- und Getränkewelt Weiser from Heppenheim was one of the first to participate in the Machir Bay Collaborative Vatting Programme and opted for the variant with 95% bourbon and 5% sherry for its bottling released in January 2019. A good year later, it released another MBCV bottling, again with 95% bourbon and 5% sherry (Vat No.: 5482).
