Kilchoman 9 yo Marsala Finish Single Cask 16/1182 – Ebudae – Whisky at the Edge of Empire I

The online shop alleswhisky.de has now launched a range of exclusive single-cask bottlings under its own brand, Glock Spirits. The series is called ‘Ebudae – Whisky at the Edge of Empire’ and pays homage to the era of the Roman Empire. ‘Ebudae’ was the Roman name for the Hebrides. That was where the Roman Empire ended and the wild Barbaricum began. As is well known, the Hebrides are today one of the most important regions of origin for Scotch whisky, and the names of the Hebridean islands – Islay, Jura, Mull, Skye, Harris and Raasay – set the hearts of whisky lovers racing.

The Ebudae Collection has now launched, as befits the range, with an Islay whisky; the bottling listed here – Barbaricum Ultima Caledonia I – is a Kilchoman Marsala finish. The whisky was initially matured for just under 7 years in a fresh ex-bourbon barrel and was decanted on 7 September 2023 into a Marsala wine cask from the Florio winery in Marsala, where it remained until it was bottled in early May 2026. This makes it, amongst the numerous Kilchoman single-cask bottlings of recent years, the whisky with the second-longest Marsala finishing period. A comparison can be made, amongst others, with the bottling from the sister cask 1181/2016, which was released a year ago as part of the Uniquely Islay seriesAn t-Earrach 2025 – by the German importer Hanseatische Weinhandelsgesellschaft Bremen.
