Kilchoman 9 yo Spätburgunder Single Cask Finish 16/1172 for The Specialist´s Choice – NL

Throughout its history, Kilchoman has so far released only two whiskies that have been finished in Pinot Noir or Spätburgunder casks (this is how the ‘King of Red Wines’ is usually referred to in German). Both were released in the Netherlands: a Pinot Noir Small Batch at DrankDozijn in late 2021, and a single cask bottling for the spirits retailer Gall & Gall in late 2024.

Now another single-cask bottling from this type of cask has been released, and once again in the Netherlands. The importer Bresser & Timmer had this cask bottled specifically for Dutch whisky specialist retailers. As the cask once again comes from Weinhaus Franz Hahn in Rhineland-Palatinate, the bottling is now, quite logically, referred to as a “Spätburgunder Finish”. Bresser & Timmer is also the importer of Franz Hahn wines, so it made sense to bring the two worlds together, especially as Anthony Wills is, by his own admission, constantly on the lookout for direct contacts with wineries.

The whisky was initially matured for five and a half years in a fresh ex-bourbon barrel and was then finished for just under four years in a Spätburgunder cask.

The bottles are now available from various Dutch spirits retailers; at Dramtime they cost 95.00 euros.
