Kilchoman Bourbon Single Cask 689/2011 for Islay Pipe Band

The Kilchoman distillery has been sponsoring the Islay Pipe Band since 2012. The activities of the band have often been reported on the Kilchoman homepage and a performance by the Islay Pipe Band has been a fixed item on the programme at the Kilchoman Open Day at Fèis Ìle for years.

Since 2013, Kilchoman has released an annual single cask bottling for the Islay Pipe Band. The bottles are sold exclusively at the distillery’s visitor centre and all proceeds go to the band.

Now the fourth Islay Pipe Band bottling has been released. The whisky was matured for four and a half years in a fresh ex-bourbon barrel.

The casks for the previous Pipe Band bottlings were always selected by the recently deceased Kilchoman distillery manager John MacLellan, the current release was dedicated to him. The tasting notes on the back of the bottle were written by John MacLellan’s son Sandy, who is an active member of the Islay Pipe Band. The back of the box shows a photo of a happy John MacLellan with Sandy on his graduation day.

The whisky is sold at the distillery for £80 a bottle, which, as always with Islay Pipe Band bottlings, can only be paid for in cash or by cheque.
