Kilchoman Kiln burnt down

The Kilchoman distillery now had to cope with another setback to the start of continuous production. On 12 February, a fire broke out in the Kiln and largely destroyed it. The malt drying on the kiln floor in the direct-fired kiln had caught fire. Quick and professional intervention by the Islay Fire Brigade prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings.

According to Kilchoman, a certain amount of malt is still available, but until the Kiln is rebuilt, the malt demand will be met exclusively with barley from the Port Ellen Maltings, malted according to Ardbeg specifications.
