Kilchoman Kiln burnt down

The Kilchoman distillery now had to cope with another major setback. On 12 February, a fire broke out in the kiln and largely destroyed it. The malt drying on the kiln floor in the directly fired kiln caught fire. Quick and professional intervention by the Islay fire brigade prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings.

The production of whisky from the farm’s own barley – one of Kilchoman’s credos – has therefore come to a standstill before it has really begun. Until the Kiln is rebuilt, malt requirements will be met exclusively with barley malted to Ardbeg specifications from the Port Ellen Maltings.
