The basis of the whiskies in the 2019 introduced new series of Small Batch Releases for selected markets is always an already finished Machir Bay vatting or Machir Bay Collaborative Vatting, i.e. a whisky with 46% alcohol strength, which was previously matured for 3-5 years predominantly in Bourbon barrels and 5-15% in Oloroso Sherry casks. This vatting is then married with an additional special cask.
The “Exclusive Selection No. 2” listed here is actually number 3 in the series for the French dealer Le comptoir Irlandais. An “Exclusive Selection No. 2” had already appeared in 2020, but according to Peter Wills, it is not a typing error, but rather the dealer wanted it that way, for whatever reason. In any case, it often leads to confusion among whisky drinkers and collectors.
The additional cask this time is a Sauternes Hogshead. The proportions of the individual casks in the vatting are given as 70 % Bourbon, 5 % Oloroso Sherry and 25 % Sauternes.
