From 2018 to 2023, Kilchoman offered local retailers the opportunity to create customised bottlings of the distillery´s flagship whisky Machir Bay with the ‘Machir Bay Collaborative Vattings’.

Deviating from the normal cask composition of Machir Bay, which consists of 90% bourbon and 10% Oloroso sherry cask-matured whisky, retailers could choose between four different variants with slightly altered proportions for the Collaborative Vattings: 95% bourbon / 5% sherry, 92.5% bourbon / 7.5% sherry, 87.5% bourbon / 12.5% sherry or 85% bourbon / 15% sherry cask-matured whisky. As with the ‘normal’ Machir Bay bottlings, the alcohol content was 46%. The boxes and bottles in the usual Machir Bay design were labelled with an individual sticker from the retailer.

After the Liquor Store Spirit World from Omaha, Nebraska released its first MCBV bottling with 5% sherry in 2021, it teamed up with the Liquor Store Spirit & Things, also from Omaha, Nebraska, for a second bottling with 12.5% sherry.

The bottling was released simultaneously in both stores on 20 October 2023. Spirit World also held a release party on that day, where the bottling could be tasted for free.
