In its highly acclaimed Cask Evolution Series, launched in 2016, the US-based Kilchoman importer ImpEx Beverages released three new Kilchoman single cask bottlings in 2025. Number 03/2025 in the series was the 100% Islay Madeira Single Cask listed here.

As is well known, Kilchoman released its first Madeira Cask Matured Limited Release in October 2015. The 17 fresh Madeira casks used for this bottling were immediately refilled, this time with 100% Islay distillate from a batch that was currently in the spirits receiver. Since the end of 2024, Kilchoman has been releasing these refill Madeira casks as nine-year-old single cask bottlings in its various markets. Examples include the first of these bottlings in November 2024 for the Brühler Whiskyhaus and, as is well known, two of these casks were also used for the Fèis Ìle release 2025.

These bottlings have met with considerable interest, as Kilchoman matures its 100% Islay distillate almost exclusively in bourbon and sherry casks, making single farm single malt bottlings from other cask types quite rare. Furthermore, in our opinion, Kilchoman spirit and Madeira casks are generally a ‘match made in heaven’!
