Tasting Notes

Hans-Peter Neumann

  • Nose:
Very distinct peat smoke nose, more of the bonfire type, only a little medicinal. Very sweet: caramel, honey, then vanilla. Some floor wax and wood notes; does not seem as fresh and light as similar old Kilchomans (Vintage 2007, Machir Bay 2012, 2013).
  • Taste:
Lots of peat smoke, very oily and salty. Clear honey sweetness and very slightly bitter at the end.
  • Finish:
Long, smoky-dry, salty, a little bitter and only slightly metallic.
  • Summary:
Clearly more full-bodied and complex than other equally aged ex-bourbon matured Kilchoman editions. Not so fresh and light; peat smoke very clearly in the foreground, but not dominating everything else. Nice sweetness and hardly metallic.
