“Be a bottler” is a popular Fèis Ìle programme item at the Kilchoman Open Days, where visitors can fill their very own bottles of Kilchoman whisky. In the past, this mostly involved the standard release Machir Bay, but since Fèis Ìle 2018, the offer has been extended to single casks.

For Fèis Ìle 2023, the STR Single Cask listed here was bottled. Each participant in the “Be a Bottler” events filled four bottles, one of which they could keep – with an individual back label. The remaining bottles were sold a few weeks later in the visitor centre as a Distillery Shop Exclusive Release.

The whisky was matured for just over 5 years in an STR cask (Shaved, Toasted & Re-charred ex-Red Wine Cask). Given the large number of Kilchoman STR cask releases to date, it will probably come as something of a surprise that this bottling is the first STR single cask full maturation, all other releases having been finishings of whiskies previously matured in bourbon barrels.
