The 4th annual Kilchoman Sherry cask release Loch Gorm first appeared on 23 March 2015 in the Kilchoman Online Shop and shortly afterwards at retailers.
Composed from casks filled in 2009 and 2010, it is only slightly older than the previous year’s version, namely just over 5 years. The difference is the partial use of Oloroso Sherry Hogsheads and no longer exclusively Sherry Butts; according to Anthony Wills, these smaller casks give Loch Gorm an increased sherry influence, the circulation is said to be 10.000 bottles.
Kilchoman founder Anthony Wills wrote: »As well as this year’s release being slightly older, we decided to increase the ratio of single malt matured in smaller sherry hogsheads versus that matured in larger sherry butts. This increases the influence from the sherry casks and gives the whisky a striking intensity and richness. That said, the whisky retains the balance and complexity Kilchoman releases are well-known for.«
Kilchoman does not usually release the various annual Loch Gorm editions as miniatures, but there is one such bottling of Loch Gorm 2015. The Canadian wine and spirits shop Kensington Wine Market in Calgary commissioned Kilchoman to bottle a series of 5 cl miniatures between 2015 and 2021 for its annual Whisky Advent Calendar. These were mostly one of the exclusive KWM Kilchoman single casks; the 2015 Whisky Advent Calendar also included an exclusive miniature bottling of the Loch Gorm 2015.
