From 2018 to 2023, Kilchoman offered local retailers the opportunity to create customised bottlings of the distillery´s flagship whisky Machir Bay with the ‘Machir Bay Collaborative Vattings’.

Deviating from the normal cask composition of Machir Bay, which consists of 90% bourbon and 10% Oloroso sherry cask-matured whisky, retailers could choose between four different variants with slightly altered proportions for the Collaborative Vattings: 95% bourbon / 5% sherry, 92.5% bourbon / 7.5% sherry, 87.5% bourbon / 12.5% sherry or 85% bourbon / 15% sherry cask-matured whisky. As with the ‘normal’ Machir Bay bottlings, the alcohol content was 46%. The boxes and bottles in the usual Machir Bay design were labelled with an individual sticker from the retailer.

Total Wine & More describes itself as “America’s Wine Superstore”. Founded in 1991, the company is the largest independent supermarket chain for wine, spirits and beer, with 46 superstores in 27 US states.

Total Wine & More is also very active as a Kilchoman reseller. In addition to a single cask bottling, they released two exclusive Kilchoman Small Batch Releases and some of their superstores also participated in the Machir Bay Collaborative Vatting program. The bottling listed here with 5% sherry had already been bottled in 2022, but then appeared a little late in superstores in New Jersey until February 2023 (followed by another bottling for New Jersey with 7.5% sherry at the end of August 2023).
