The biggest and most famous New Zealand whisky festival Dramfest has been organised by the whisky shop Whisky Galore from Christchurch since 2007. DramFest 2011 was scheduled to take place from 25 to 27 February at Christchurch City Hall. However, on 22 February 2011, the devastating Christchurch earthquake occurred, claiming many lives….

After the earthquake and the cancelled Dramfest 2011, it was difficult to find a new venue in 2012, so the 2012 event was held in a marquee in the casino car park. But it did take place again and this historical background explains why this bottling, which was personally selected by Whisky Galore, is labelled “Bottled exclusively for Dramfest 2011/12”.

The Oloroso Sherry Butt 317/2006 was a so-called “split cask”. That means that the present bottling was only filled with a part of the contents, the other part was bottled one month earlier for the Dutch market. Especially in the early Kilchoman days, when the individual markets did not yet require such high bottle numbers, it was a common practice to divide the contents of the large 500 litre sherry butts between two or three bottlings.
