The Texas liquor chain “Spec´s. Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods” was founded in 1962 and is now active at 180 locations exclusively in Texas. In 2022, an exclusive Kilchoman Small Batch was bottled for Spec’s for the first time.

In August 2023, two new Small Batch Releases for Spec’s were announced under the new range name Triskele Casks: one with an additional Sauternes wine cask and one with an STR cask. Referring to the Celtic symbol of the Triskele, which, amongst other things, symbolises the unity of three elements and is famously featured as the logo on every Kilchoman bottle, Kilchoman has now named its small batches – which, after all, consist of three casks that together form a new unit – Triskele Casks.

With the series of Small Batch Releases for Selected Markets, launched in 2019, renamed ‘Triskele Casks’ in 2023 and discontinued at the end of 2023, Kilchoman showcased its experimental side. Each individual batch was created specifically for individual export markets and demonstrated the influence of different cask types on the maturation of Kilchoman whisky.

The basis of each bottling was an already finished Machir Bay vatting or Machir Bay Collaborative Vatting, i.e. a whisky with 46% alcohol strength, which had previously been matured for around 5 years mainly in bourbon casks and 5-15% in Oloroso sherry casks. This vatting was then married with an additional special cask.

The additional cask here is a Sauternes wine cask. The proportions are 75% Bourbon, 5% Oloroso Sherry and 20% Sauternes.
