From 2018 to 2023, Kilchoman offered local retailers the opportunity to create customised bottlings of the distillery´s flagship whisky Machir Bay with the ‘Machir Bay Collaborative Vattings’.
Deviating from the normal cask composition of Machir Bay, which consists of 90% bourbon and 10% Oloroso sherry cask-matured whisky, retailers could choose between four different variants with slightly altered proportions for the Collaborative Vattings: 95% bourbon / 5% sherry, 92.5% bourbon / 7.5% sherry, 87.5% bourbon / 12.5% sherry or 85% bourbon / 15% sherry cask-matured whisky. As with the ‘normal’ Machir Bay bottlings, the alcohol content was 46%. The boxes and bottles in the usual Machir Bay design were labelled with an individual sticker from the retailer.
Three whisky enthusiasts from Switzerland started the “Irten’ge” project in 2020: to distil whisky themselves in a “Farmhouse Distillery” on Gurten, Berne’s local mountain. As part of the financing, they also had a Kilchoman Machir Bay Collaborative Vatting bottled with a cask proportion of 87,5% bourbon / 12,5% sherry.
