In 2006 and 2007, Kilchoman sold numerous freshly filled casks to private individuals to create urgently needed cash flow for the distillery’s ongoing operations in the financially difficult early years. These were almost exclusively 1st fill and 2nd fill bourbon barrels.
When Kilchoman was doing better financially, they tried to buy back as many of these casks as possible, but only a few cask owners took up the offer.
Since the purchase price included insurance and storage costs for 10 years, 2016 and 2017 saw a great wave of Kilchoman Private Cask bottlings.

This is one of those bottlings. In July 2017, the Norwegian owner had only 161 bottles of this private cask bottled “for internal use”. The rest of the cask was apparently bought back by the Kilchoman distillery and became part of the Feis Ile Release 2018 just under a year later.
