In March 2023, a few weeks late, the fifth edition of the Uniquely Islay series was released in Germany: Uniquely Islay – An Geamhradh 2022. The Calvados Double Cask Finish mentioned here was the first of the five bottlings.

Double Cask Finish means that the contents of two bourbon barrels are finished in a 400 litre Calvados cask. Kilchoman had also used this process several times in the past with Armagnac casks. Since the 400 litre Calvados and Armagnac casks are exactly twice the size of an American Standard Barrel, this is a very obvious procedure.

In this case, the whisky was initially matured for 9 years in two ex-bourbon barrels and was then finished for more than 15 months in a 400 litre Calvados cask.
