Kilchoman Quebec Small Batch No. 1 released
A few days ago, the first Kilchoman Small Batch Release for the province of Quebec was released in Canada.
In Canada, the distribution of alcohol is handled exclusively by state monopolies (so-called Crown Corporations). Each province has its own Crown Corporation, in Quebec this is La Société des Alcools du Québec.
For this reason, we are now dealing with a small batch exclusively for Quebec and not for Canada.
The basis of the whiskies in the series of Small Batch Releases for selected markets, which began in 2019, is an already finished Machir Bay vatting or Machir Bay Collaborative Vatting , i.e. a whisky with 46% alcohol strength, which was previously matured for 3-5 years predominantly in bourbon barrels and 5-15% in oloroso sherry casks. This vatting is then married with an additional special cask.
In the case of the Quebec Small Batch No. 1, the additional cask is a Sauternes wine cask, as is so often the case with the worldwide small batch releases of the years 2021 and 2022. The proportions are given as 75% bourbon, 5% (oloroso) sherry and 20% Sauternes.
