Kilchoman Tequila Finish Single Cask 736/2013 for The Nectar, 15th Anniversary

On the occasion of its 15th birthday, the Belgian Kilchoman importer The Nectar released one of the still very rare Kilchoman Tequila Cask Finish bottlings.

The whisky was first matured for 7 years in a bourbon barrel and was then finished for 8 months in a tequila cask.

We had already reported several times that Kilchoman had also filled some tequila and mezcal casks for the first time after the relaxation of the SWA regulations on cask maturation in 2020, some intended for full maturation, some for finishing. After being positively surprised by the development of the whisky in these casks, they immediately filled a few more around Christmas time 2020. The first Tequila Finish Release then appeared as an Online Shop Exclusive in April 2021, followed by a Distillery Shop Exclusive Release after the reopening of the Kilchoman visitor centre. The first German bottling was released a few weeks ago in the Uniquely Islay An Samhradh 2021 series.

Compared to Kilchoman releases from bourbon barrels that are about 8 years old, theThe Nectar bottling has a special fruitiness reminiscent of green agave and an outstanding sweetness that already distinguished the other Kilchoman Tequila Finish bottlings we tasted.
