Timeline 2003

Spring 2003: Although the funds required to build the distillery have not yet been fully raised, initial preparatory work begins on converting some of the former farm buildings. The work, like all the conversion and new-build projects carried out in 2004 and 2005, is being carried out by ‘Woodrow Construction Ltd’, a local building firm that was also involved in the reopening of the Ardbeg distillery.

November 2003: In an interview in Walter Schobert’s “Whisky Watch No. 22”, Mark French emphasises that he firmly believes that the distillery will be built in 2004 after two failed attempts.

The newly formed team now includes him and Anthony Wills, whisky scientist James Swan and whisky expert and author Charles MacLean. Sir John MacTaggart, who was already involved with Bruichladdich, could be won as a partner. The money has now been raised and an annual production of 40,000 litres is planned.
