New Vibrations Collection by LMDW with four new Kilchoman Releases

Once a year, the French spirits retailer and Kilchoman importer La Maison Du Whisky publishes a catalogue of exclusive LMDW bottlings of whisky, rum and other spirits, which is always outstanding in terms of scope and content. This year’s theme is “New Vibrations”.

Thierry Bénitah, CEO of La Maison du Whisky writes:
Year after year, our Creations catalogue showcases a particular facet of La Maison du Whisky’s selection process, highlighting our various inspirations, favourites, and discoveries. Titled New Vibrations, the 2024 collection has its sights firmly set on innovation and experimentation, and honours those who push the boundaries of the spirits industry.
From whisky to rum, cognac to sake, this catalogue comprises 230 items, produced by over a hundred distilleries between 1703 and 2022. Three centuries of history for your perusal, illustrated by the timelines which open each chapter.
Wide-ranging though it is, the
New Vibrations collection remains focused on pioneers: young distilleries and nascent brands, yes, but also longstanding players in the industry – distillers, blenders, bottlers… Trailblazers in their time, these stalwarts have weathered the centuries through continual reinvention.

As last year, the numerous spirits bottled exclusively for LMDW include four new Kilchoman bottlings. These are particularly interesting for Kilchoman lovers, as LMDW wants to demonstrate the influence of different fermentation times and different phenol levels with four 100% Islay whiskies. The collection includes two 8-year-old whiskies with shorter (75 hours) and longer (100 hours) fermentation than the 85 hours that are standard for Kilchoman today, as well as two 12-year-old bottlings made from unpeated malt and from peated malt with an phenol level of 20 ppm. This makes for really interesting comparisons, which we will report on in detail here.

Despite all the anticipation for the new bottlings, one negative point should not be concealed: the exorbitant price. LMDW’s bottlings have always been priced a little higher, but this year’s collection finally knocks the bottom out of the barrel, so to speak: almost 200 euros for a 12-year-old and over 160 euros for an 8-year-old whisky – there are no words!
